The Community First Initiative TREE Project
Community First, 'from the community for the community' is not just our motto, but it informs everything we do. The Tree Project came from one of our social enterprise projects, TipTop Candles.
During a session a participant came, they were so impressed with what we were doing, and the impact that our projects were having that they were overwhelmed. They wanted to support the project any way they can.
This further encouraged and inspired the team, who then came up with the Tree Project, we designed a beautiful and stunning bespoke candle, as well as other candles, it was agreed that all the proceeds from the sale of these candles would go towards purchasing Oak Trees. Why Oak trees, you may ask, Oak trees are beautiful, strong, with. Strong roots, large, they provide shade, food for animals, shelter/homes for animals too, Oak trees are symbolic.
A discussion took place with St. Michaels Primary School, Lower Street, Wolverhampton, who were very excited to be apart of it. This is a great example of a grassroots project, were the community, local school and volunteers came together to improve the environment and make Wolverhampton look and feel better.
Five, five foot tall, Oak Trees were purchased, from the funds raised from the sale of the candles and on Thursday 11th April 2019, all five trees were planted on the school site, with staff and young people, from St. Michaels Primary School, along with volunteers from Community First Initiative. An amazing day.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers, TipTop Candles, St. Michaels Primary School and especially the young people who participated.
When a community comes together, all working together, for the betterment of Wolverhampton, we can achieve anything and everything.
